Single-flex Composite Disc Couplings (CD® Couplings) deliver high torsional stiffness, precision, and durability in demanding servo motor applications. These compact couplings feature a single composite disc and a zero backlash design to provide smooth and accurate operation at any speed, including high speed reversing applications. CD single flex couplings accommodate angular, axial, and parallel misalignment and eliminate issues related to fatigue and fretting seen with metal disc models.

Zero-Max provides single-flex Composite Disc Couplings in a range of sizes, hub styles, and torque ratings for high precision motion control applications. Select from steel, aluminum, or stainless-steel models with clamp style, set screw style, QD bushing style, or custom design hubs.

Selecting the Right Composite Disc Single Flex Coupling…

Clamp Style vs. Set Screw Single Flex Couplings. Which Should I Choose?

Clamping hubs are the preferred method for connecting a coupling to a shaft as they offer several advantages.  They can simplify installation, they do not damage the shaft they are attached to, and by engaging the entire circumference of the shaft they can offer more holding power.  Zero-Max clamp type hub CD Couplings are available with keyways or without keyways, depending on preference and application.  Contact the factory if you have questions.  Clamp style single-flex CD Couplings are available in steel, aluminum, or stainless-steel construction.  Special materials and plating are available upon request.

Set screws are the “traditional” way of connecting a coupling to a shaft. These require a keyway on the shaft and in the hub so that a key can be used to transmit power.  Set-screw single-flex CD Couplings are available in steel or stainless-steel construction.  Special materials and plating are available upon request.

Does Zero-Max Offer Other Hub Styles?

In addition to our clamp style and set-screw style hubs, Zero-Max also offers a series of QD (quick disconnect) bushing style hubs.  Composite disc single flex couplings with QD bushing hubs utilize standard QD bushings for connecting the coupling to a shaft.  These QD bushings (sold separately) are readily available at most power transmission and motion control distributors and they support a wide range of shaft sizes. This choice is ideal if you cannot find the exact size you need in stock and need it or a temporary replacement immediately.

Any of our single-flex Composite Disc Coupling hubs can also be customized to your application and performance requirements.  Bore size, flange mount, shrink disc, unique mounting features, different materials, plating, and more can be tailored to meet your specific needs. We can offer a solution for any application.

How do I Select A Material for My Single Flex Couplings?

Material selection comes down to preference and your requirements for strength, weight, inertia, and corrosion resistance. Steel is the most used material as it exhibits the highest strength and hardness for demanding applications.  All our steel couplings have a black oxide coating, standard.

Aluminum is also popular due to its robust, lightweight construction, low inertia, and because it provides increased corrosion resistance.  All our aluminum couplings have a black anodized coating, standard.  Stainless steel is durable with exceptional corrosion resistance properties.  We also offer custom materials and plating by request.

Custom Single Flex Couplings

All of our single-flex composite disc couplings can be customized to your application and performance requirements. Bore diameters, misalignment capabilities, torque capacity, torsional stiffness, and other factors can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
