 SUMMARY

Develops detailed product designs, drawings and related specifications of mechanical products by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Analyzes engineering specifications, performance requirements, and related data and drawings to determine feasibility of application, product type, and design that is within the scope that the company can manufacture.

 

Uses computer assisted design/drafting software to develop designs, detail drawings, and 3-D models. Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of products and manufactured components. Updates existing drawings to ensure compliance with current requirements.

 

Modifies product and component designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production costs and/or problems, or to satisfy customers' special requirements.

 

Works with vendors, Production, and Quality Control to ensure compliance with design specifications.

 

Maintains product structure and routing database for assigned Zero-Max products.

 

Supports sales channels, customers and vendors with product data.

 

Directs and coordinates manufacturing & assembly of prototype products.

 

Produces product test specifications, assists in testing as necessary, and interprets test results. Writes test reports, as necessary.

 

Produces product manuals, instructions, design reports and other documentation for customer or certification bodies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering plus five years of experience; or, Associate degree plus eight years of experience; or, 15 years related experience and/or training.

 

The following skills are required:

 

Strong background in Statics & Strength of Materials.

 

Mechanical Engineering and Design experience of power transmission components.

 

Strong CAD drafting skills. Autocad or Inventor training/experience preferred.

 

Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.

 

Experience with machined steel components, castings, molded parts, etc. Knowledge of machine tools and processes used to produce manufactured parts.

 

Knowledge and/or experience with rotating machine components such as motors, gears, bearings, shafts, clutches, and couplings.

 

Experience using software such as spreadsheet, word processing, database, etc. to solve technical/engineering problems.

 

The following skills are preferred:

 

Autodesk or Inventor 3D modeling experience highly preferred.

 

Experience in metallurgy and heat treatment.

 

Knowledge and/or experience using Product Data management software such as Epicor (Product structure & routing data).

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and customers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
