Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for daily coordination, processing, and monitoring of assembly and shipping/receiving departments. In addition, this position is a champion of continuous improvement efforts to drive safety, quality, and efficiencies.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership
- Is a champion of the company safety and employee engagement programs and adheres to all appropriate safety policies and procedures while directing employees and seeks opportunities to improve safe work practices
- Drives a culture of continuous improvement using problem-solving tools, 5S, etc.
- Follows all company established methods, policies, rules, practices, and procedures to ensure employee safety, product quality and efficient operations
- Sets direction for all assembly, shipping, and receiving, personnel daily
- Coordinates with production control office to ensure orders are produced on-time
- Manages employee hiring, performance management, and training
- Accomplishes results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
- May need to occasionally step in and help out in the Assembly, Shipping, and Receiving departments

- Partners with leadership and Human Resources to maintain and support a positive, engaged working environment
Employee Training
- Ensures manufacturing area personnel are trained correctly to enable product to be assembled and packaged to the necessary requirements
- Monitors and ensures personnel are trained to meet zero defects, 100% on time shipments, and zero customer complaints – drives corrective action if not
- Maintains working knowledge of all equipment and processes related to the assembly, receiving, and packaging areas
Performance Management
- Provides real-time feedback to workforce to drive proactive performance improvement
- Partners with HR for guidance and support in progressive discipline/corrective actions to ensure they are conducted consistently
- Provides coaching and feedback to employees on performance management
Policies & Processes
- Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and work instructions for manufacturing
- Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems
- Resolves process problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action
- Additional duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains a staffing level appropriate for the work volume - correct problems either directly or through the Director of Manufacturing
- Regularly observes and evaluates all manufacturing area activities
- Works closely with production control to determine when it may be necessary to request permission for the team to work overtime
- Audits job orders regularly for completeness and accuracy - comply with all customer specifications for both product and packaging
- Gathers data for establishing rates to ensure employees know the expected production rate for the task they are performing
- Effectively monitors and approves employee attendance, overtime, and PTO
Education/Certifications
- Two plus years of post-secondary education, preferred
- Six to eight years’ experience in various aspects of manufacturing production, including at least three years in a leadership role
- Experience participating in or leading lean manufacturing projects is highly desired
- Supervisory experience in an assembly department is preferred
- Forklift certification, preferred
Required Skills
- Good communication and analytical skills
- Knowledge of MS office & ERP Software
- Epicor ERP and MES software experience preferred
- Ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams
- Excellent interpersonal skills that include the ability to work with employees at multiple levels within the organization
- The ability to effectively train employees and conduct performance management activities
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while meeting production schedule
- Confidentiality, integrity, and effective communication skills are required
