Precision Actuators for Motion Control Applications

Roh’Lix Linear Actuators convert rotational motion into precise linear motion and thrust while providing integrated and adjustable overload protection. Zero-Max’s Roh’Lix Linear Actuators are threadless, mechanical, screw-type devices that utilize rolling-element ball bearings for smooth linear motion. Zero-Max’s Roh'Lix actuators operate at lower costs and higher speeds than alternative actuators and provide additional overload protection. Zero-Max carries compact linear actuators in five-inch and five-metric sizes, with a wide range of leads, and offer between 15 and 200 lbs. thrust capacity depending on your application needs. Custom solutions are also available.

Roh’Lix Linear Actuator Benefits

Zero-Max Roh’Lix Linear Actuators provide high efficiency output with a minimum 90% mechanical efficiency and can be used in horizontal or vertical loading applications. All Roh’Lix bearings are lubricated for life and require no additional lubrication. The preloaded bearings reduce backlash to less than 0.001 inches for increased accuracy. In certain instances, the Roh’lix overload protection feature can be used to slip when obstructions are encountered to reduce costly downtime and prevent damage to your equipment. Aside from occasional minor cleaning, the innovative Roh’Lix design provides maintenance-free operation.

Additional Roh’Lix Linear Actuator Features

  • Can operate in temperatures ranging from -10°F to +180°F.
  • Minimum life expectancy of 2 million inches of linear travel. While occasional overloads are acceptable and are a design feature of the Roh’Lix, frequent overloads will lessen the lifespan due to resulting wear.
  • Over 100 million inches of linear travel may be achieved with proper application parameters.
  • Actuators can provide up to 200 lbs. of thrust capacity.

Roh’Lix Linear Actuator Small or Larger Size Options

Thrust Requirements, Driveshaft RPM, Shaft Diameter, and Desired Linear Speed are all factors that should be considered in selecting the right Roh’Lix size and Roh’Lix lead for your application. Please refer to the Roh’Lix Linear Actuator catalog  or Contact Us for assistance.

Inch Model Roh’Lix Linear Actuators

Inch Model Linear Actuators shaft diameters range from 0.375 inches to 2 Inches. Thrust Rating from 1lbs to 200lbs depending on the actuator model.

Metric Model Roh’Lix Linear Actuators

Metric Model Linear Actuators shaft diameters range from 8mm to 50mm. Thrust Rating from 67N to 887N depending on the actuator model.

Roh'Lix Actuator Operating Characteristics

  • Thrust: Roh’Lix lifetime is increased when the application thrust load is a smaller percentage of the unit’s thrust rating. In some applications, two Roh-Lix linear actuator units can be used in tandem to increase thrust rating (contact factory).
  • Lead/Shaft Options: Inch sizes and metric sizes are available. Special shaft diameters, leads, and block sizes are available. Recommended driveshaft material is C-1060 hardened and ground shafting with a minimum hardness of HRC 58. Stainless steel shafting, although slightly softer, is adequate for many applications requiring corrosion protection.
  • Installation: The Roh’Lix has a split-block construction for easy installation, eliminating the need to remove pillow-block bearings, couplings, etc. Thrust settings on the Roh’Lix linear actuators are easily adjusted via coil springs and SHCS to easily provide the ideal loading to maximize operational life.
  • Upkeep: Maintenance-free bearings are lubricated for life and require no additional lubrication; however, the shaft may require occasional wiping for optimal performance.
  • Improved Lifespan: Lower application thrust load relative to Roh’Lix rating, higher leads/lower RPM, and minimizing overload conditions, side loads and twisting loads will all increase Roh’Lix lifespan.
  • Customization: Roh’Lix units can be constructed with various materials and for various shaft sizes, with virtually any desired lead, and in custom sizes. Right-hand lead is standard, left-hand lead available upon request.
  • Backdriving: The Roh’Lix can be backdriven. By applying a thrust load to the Roh’Lix unit, the shaft can be made to rotate. Therefore, the Roh’Lix should never be used as the sole device to hold position.

Roh’Lix Linear Actuator Utilizes Advanced Technology

The Roh’lix consists of six preloaded bearings that contact the shaft at varying angles. As the shaft rotates, the bearings trace out an imaginary screw thread pattern, moving the Roh-Lix linearly along the shaft and converting rotary motion into linear motion. The lead, or distance the Roh’Lix moves in one shaft revolution, can vary from 0.025” to 3 times the shaft diameter. Coil springs maintain a constant tension against the adjustment screws, so thrust settings do not change once set. The Roh’lix is a friction drive device and, as a result, will show an accumulated error that is, in general, up to 0.002 inches per shaft revolution.

Sideloads and twisting loads should be avoided since they can lead to uneven bearing loading shortening product lifespan. Whenever possible, the load weight on the Roh’Lix Linear Actuator should be supported by a separate linear bearing assembly.
